Fried Plantain Crisps/ Dodo/ Kelewele
Fried ripe plantain crisps. Probably the easiest and most common way to enjoy ripe plantains. Simply marinade you sweet ripe plantains with spices and deep fry. Don’t you worry your calorie counting self, it’s worth every crispy bite.Throughout most West African countries, especially Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria, sweet ripe plantains are usually fried but plantains are now being featured in baked treats too. My plantain recipe pays homage to our Ghanaian neighbors. Kelewele is a well known street food throughout Ghana.
With that being said , I had to spice this up with spices from my Ghana spice queen Essiespice. And No, this is not a sponsored post, I’ve been using her sauces and spices for about 3 years now and will definitely continue. They are that good!
All you need is your ripe plantain, some fresh ginger and Mango Chili Medley for seasoning. Some oil for deep frying and some roasted peanuts to complete your plate. With plantains it depends on how many mouths you plan on feeding. You best believe me when I say these plantain crisps will go faster than you expect. So be a great host and get enough plantains if you plan on serving a crowd. Don’t tease friends with just a couple of nibbles.
In the absence of spices above, you can also season your plantains with just ginger, cayenne and a little bit of salt. You can never go wrong with this favorite snack. They are delicious and super easy and fast to make.
