No stir homemade peanut butter

No stir Homemade peanut butter! Sometimes when I look through the ingredient list of peanut butter jars on the shelf I wonder why? How hard is it to make peanut butter? But then again, if you want  it to last forever, somethings gotta give. Making peanut butter at home is super easy and you can play with so many different flavors.

For a start we are keeping it simple with some plain peanut butter with just a pinch or two of salt. With this recipe you can add more flavors like honey, maple syrup and more. Its homemade after all

ROASTING

We buy raw peanuts from an oriental store down in Nashville, but it can be purchased online too. Spanish peanuts are my favorite because its close to what we grow in Cameroon.

Nothing more than 350 degrees! Low and slow is best. Keeping the oven temp at 300 was just right for us . You want to roast until some of the skins start to peel and the peanuts get a little sheen on them. The oils are just starting to be released. Do not worry if your oven seems a little smoky when you do a quick check. Yes do a quick check and give the roasting pan a little shake.

You can also roast stove top in a pan. That way you have eyes on the peanuts. Takes a little longer but this is actually how we roasted peanuts for groundnut soup back then.

PEELING THE PEANUTS

I’ve done this for as long as I can remember. From the oven, let the peanuts cool. Then gather as much as you can between your palms and rub, applying a little pressure. Do this a few times. Take that tray outback or some place to discard the skin without making a big mess. Pretend you’re a pro at flipping pancakes but in this case you blow while you toss the peanuts in the air. Not too high! The peels fly off. Or you can do a pour from container to container with a blowing fan somewhere ( too much work). You do not have to peel every single nut but enough to show you put a little effort into peeling.

NO STIR HOMEMADE PEANUT BUTTER

This is just peanuts and salt. No water, no oil, NOTHING else. I use a food processor. You blend until it slowly turns from a think paste to lighter, spreadable consistency. At this point you can flavor and keep blending to mix. I just added a pinch of salt.

This no stir homemade peanut butter does not stop at peanut butter and jelly. Use for baking, power bites, soups and much more. Absolutely love the entire process… the smell of roasted peanuts! Hope you enjoy making, peanut and other nut butters at home.

It really is that simple
