ABOUT HIBISCUS LOOSE LEAF TEA

This caffeine free herbal tea has been around for centuries and is enjoyed by many different cultures. They come from the petals of the hibiscus plant and are typically seen dried. Last summer a local farmer grew some and it was a delight to take a fresh bite! It is vibrant, floral and tangy. If you have room to grow some, they will be a great addition to your tea garden. If not , you can fine some at your local Caribbean, Mexican or Asian Market.

BREWING THE HIBISCUS TEA

This can be a long brew process like our traditional Cameroonian hibiscus tea, Folere. Where you are let the pineapple and hibiscus flavor infuse overnight or a quick brew like we did here.Regardless of the brewing route you take, rest assured your friends, guests or kids will enjoy this treat. We are brewing with some fresh mint for that extra cooling sensation. Use a tea maker or a pot. Add tea and water into pot and bring to a boil. Then remove from heat and add fresh mint leaves and let sit for 5 to 7 minutes. Strain and sweeten as desired with honey, coconut or cane sugar. Chill completely for at least two hour.

MAKING THE HIBISCUS TROPICAL BLISS

Frozen drinks are not only exciting but have the maximum cooling effect for hot summer days. There was once a time when stopping by a gas station for a frozen drink was my routine. Making them at home is not only easy, but you also control whatever goes into it. Once your tea is brewed and chilled, you are all set to go. A tropical fruit blend is what we are going for. Mangoes, pineapples and some strawberries. Feel free to try other fruits.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • A high speed blender
  • Brewed Hibiscus tea
  • Frozen Fruits
  • Lemon Juice
  • Cane sugar ( Optional)
  • Ice

We start by adding frozen fruits and ice, then dissolving lemon juice, sugar and brewed tea. Blend until you get a smooth slushy.

SERVING

Best to serve immediately. It takes no more than a couple to minutes to make so you can make it just when you need it and still keep the party moving, Serving in chilled classes help keep the drinks frozen for a little longer, so feel free to chill your serving cups. Grab those colorful straws for the ultimate Slurpee effect!

Enjoy this kid friendly hibiscus tropical bliss all summer long or year round. We won’t judge. We will if you don’t share though. So invite your friends over and have fun with this one.
