This Easy apple cider at home recipe sings fall and all things thanksgiving. No added sugar, and spiced to your hearts desire. At the end you’re home smells so warm and welcoming.
You’ll absolutely love the simplicity of this cider. I’ve been making this for quite sometime now regardless of the season in all honesty. The fall however is just the perfect time for a warm mug by the window, dreaming of the holidays.
PRESSURE COOKER OR STOVE TOP
You can make this in a pressure cooker or stove top. The pressure cooker significantly shortens the cook time obviously but the end results is absolutely the same.
THE APPLES
A mixture of sweet and tart does the magic but you’re welcome to choose sides here. Fuji , Gala or golden delicious for sweet and a granny smith for tart. The sweetness in the cider also comes from oranges. Valencia, cara cara or naval oranges are great options. I prefer to remove the skin to avoid any chance of a bitter after taste. Especially if you’re cooking everything in the pressure cooker.
Everything goes into the pressure cooker or pot with just water and some cinnamon sticks. Add a little bit of you into the pot. Star anise, cloves , a touch of more citrus like lemon. Cook under high pressure for 15 minutes, This softens apples to a mush. Use a fine mesh sieve to strain (mashing with a wooden spoon or spatula). To get a more clear cider, strain again or pour cider through a cheese cloth.
SERVING
Keep on warm in your pressure cooker while your guest trickle in for that special Friendsgiving. Enjoy a warm mug as is or craft some cocktails with a splash of bourbon, rum or preferred dark spirit. Cheers to fall because this easy apple cider at home will surely be enjoyed
